New Thrift Store Staffed by Service Recipient |
| |
SRVS recently opened the Second Chances Thrift Store.
Like the name itself, the store is giving a
second chance for sustainable employment to a SRVS
individual by the name of Angelik.
Since coming to SRVS, Angelik always worked in a
janitorial work crew.
With the help of her SRVS Employment Consultant,
Louis Moses, III, she has been able to
transition from a work crew situation to her first
independent job in customer service.
Louis trained Angelik on how to organize the
closet and greet and meet customers.
He established a color coded system to help
Angelik differentiate between types and sizes of
clothes. “This job has enabled Angelik to grow to be
more independent. It has created in her a sense of
self-confidence and drive that I’ve never seen before,”
said Louis. Angelik enjoys the quiet pace of the job and
the flexibility of her work. “I really like this job. I
enjoy being by myself and meeting people. And I’ve
learned lots of things about customers, keeping
organized and structure,” said Angelik. The Second
Chances Thrift Store is available to service recipients
and DSPs. If you would like to make a donation to the
Second Chances Thrift Store, please contact the PR
Office at 901-312-6801.

SRVS Homes
Receive High Marks by REAC |
| |
SRVS continues to receive high marks in improved occupancy
and capital improvements for residential homes that support people with
developmental disabilities. A recent audit by HUD gave SRVS an
outstanding REAC (Real
Estate
Assessment
Center) rating of 100 for the work and
dedication by staff to improving the lives of the residents of four
group homes. The Center
monitors the conditions of HUD homes to ensure safe, decent and
affordable housing.
