Sea Isle Students Catch Dance Fever at Sock Hop

Students from Sea Isle Elementary School had no problem staying after school on April 24 for the Fifth Annual Sea Isle Sock Hop, a fundraiser hosted by the school's Parent Teachers Organization for the benefit of SRVS.

"It's great to see how exciting this is for all the individuals from SRVS who like to dance with our students," said event organizer and PTO president, Sheila Collier.  The event originated as a sock hop in order to collect socks and undergarments needed by SRVS individuals.  The tradition has continued, and in lieu of an admission cost, participants are asked to bring educational supplies and arts and crafts for the individuals who attend SRVS' Day Activity Center.  Nearly $1,200 worth of in-kind supplies was donated to the center.

The school's cafeteria was the place to be seen for many of the students who showcased their latest dance moves and outfits from the fifties.  Jeffrie Bruton, executive director of SRVS, presented Sea Isle principal Teri Evans and Collier with special stepping stones created by the individuals at SRVS.  "We always look forward to spring because we know it's time for the Sock Hop," said Bruton.  "We thank Principal Evans and all the staff at Sea Isle Elementary School for their ongoing community partnership.  They realize how important it is to provide the students and our individuals the opportunity to socialize and interact with one another. That is the true meaning behind this event."
