The Spirit of SRVS Auction Affair, held at the Hilton Memphis on August 22nd, was a tremendous         success given our current sate of the economy. Nearly 700 people attended the event that included unique auction items, food from Memphis' restaurants, wine tastings from around the world, and entertainment.

This year’s honorary co-chairs were Pam and Fred Montesi and event co-chairs Fred Wesberry, D.D.S. and his wife Anne.  Karen Perrin and Steve Conley from WKQK FM introduced WMC-TV 5 news broadcaster Joe Birch who returned to an enthusiastic crowd as our emcee and auctioneer.  SRVS staffers Felicia Robinson, Director of Community Living I, Yvette Hendree, Quality Assurance Monitor, and DSP Torris Seay, opened the welcome ceremony with a song composed by SRVS staff that commemorated the Spirit of SRVS event, followed by The Honorable Mayor AC Wharton who delivered opening remarks.

Legendary pianist Eddie Harrison tickled the ivories and sang from his vast musical repertoire along with local jazz sensation and saxophonist Bill Hurd from the Bill Hurd Quartet. Company d Dancers from the Downs Syndrome Association of the Mid-South made their traditional comeback, but it was SRVS’ very own service recipient, Katie Russell, who brought the house down with her own singing rendition of her favorite song, Rocky Top.

For the first time, SOS Industries showcased their new line of products under the label SOS Designs.  More than $200 in orders was placed for their handcrafted cell phone cases, purses and stepping stones!   Guests were able to mix and mingle as they bid on auction items including jewelry by Doron Diamonds, artwork, sports memorabilia, and travel packages.  We were also fortunate to have a rising local celebrity, Hailey Anne Nelson, who modeled a Chameleon Stone during the live auction.  Hailey has worked with director Tim Burton in the movie Big Fish, and played Roseanne Cash, daughter of Johnny Cash, in the biopic Walk the Line.  Her soon to be released films are A Fix and Becoming Jessie Tate.

Thanks to all our sponsors, donors and volunteers for their time and talent in making this one of the most exciting auction events around town!
