Early On is a community based developmental therapy program. This program serves children with special needs from birth to 36 months and their caregivers. Each child and caregiver will work with experienced pediatric therapy professionals in a small group setting. A licensed nurse is also a member of the team to provide ongoing medical advice and support.
During this time parents learn teaching and therapy techniques that they can use daily while caring for and playing with their children. These techniques help parents to recognize and promote the small steps that lead to the traditional developmental milestones. Since parents are with their children all or most of the day, opportunities for “play with a purpose” abound. The more involved that parents become in the process, the more confident they feel about their child’s progress.
One of the most important benefits of participating in the Early On program is getting to know the other parents in the program. Supporting one another and sharing information with other parents that are experiencing the same joys and challenges is very important and helpful. Parents will find in Early On that they are not alone and that there are others to help on the journey of raising a child with special needs.
Early On meets every Thursday at 10-11 a.m. at Covenant United Methodist Church, 8350 Walnut Grove Road, and is provided at no cost to families with children under age 3.
Early On in Tipton County meets on the first and third Tuesday of every month at 10 a.m. at Munford Baptist Church, 1253 Munford Ave., for children up to 4 years old.
